Hartlett, who has four years to run on a contract with the Power, confronted club hierarchy after hearing rumours he was being shopped to rival clubs.

“He was disappointed when he heard the speculation,” Hartlett’s manager Michael Doughty told Adelaide radio station 5AA at the weekend.

“To his credit, he went and confronted the club about it and they said in no uncertain terms that they hadn’t spoken to anyone.

“Nothing has been tabled. Port hasn’t gone to the market and neither have we, so Hamish is going to have a couple of weeks to digest it all.”

Port questioned Hartlett whether the club was the right place for the 127-game utility to achieve his potential.

“They have just asked if he thinks he can get the best out of himself at Port Adelaide,” Doughty said.

“They have got to make some changes on their list. They are just seeing what they can and what they can’t do.

“They’re not pushing Hamish out the door and if he wants to stay, he’ll stay at the Port Adelaide Football Club and they’ll be happy with that.”

Doughty had given the 26-year-old a fortnight to decide his playing future.

“Hamish at his best is probably in the top five at Port Adelaide but hasn’t quite hit those straps in the past few years,” he said.

“There is a lot of speculation about he is going to be shifted and Port are … going to be pretty aggressive in trade week.

“So he will be one of many names that I guess get bandied around which is part of the modern game and players have got to learn to deal with it.”
