The AFL draw will deliver blockbuster games to Adelaide Oval next year, but the South Australian clubs are still scratching their heads about the size of their share of the revenue pie from this year’s record-breaking opening season.
The long-running review of the clubs’ stadium deal – in train since July – is nearly complete.
With yesterday’s release of the draw revealing more Thursday and Friday night blockbusters for the Oval, the Power and the Crows are looking for a much better deal.
The AFL website reports that Port CEO Keith Thomas expects the review to report within the next two weeks.
Both clubs enjoyed record crowds and additional revenue – but both are questioning whether this “uplift” is enough.
“We got our budgeted uplift … [but that] was based on a performance significantly lower than we delivered at the oval in regards to attendances and all those sorts of things,” Thomas said.
“So there was a lot of additional revenue that the AFL clubs haven’t necessarily shared in.
“It’s really talking about that; where does the whole pie go?”
Likewise, new Crows CEO Andrew Fagan wants to see more results, given the club enjoyed the highest average home crowds in the competition.
“The review is certainly not complete, the result of the move to Adelaide Oval hasn’t delivered what we’d expect … it’s not an acceptable outcome as it is,” he said.
“Those negotiations will continue.
“They’re being held in the appropriate spirit but there’s a bit of work to do.”
