Commenting on the story: Apartment block bid next to landmark North Adelaide pub
It would be a pleasant change to see a development proposal that didn’t significantly impact on the ongoing operation of a popular pub – as there has to be some chance those seeking to downsize and move into this property won’t want rowdy late nights on their brand-new doorstep. – Tony Dawkins
Commenting on the story: Interstate bid to jumpstart stalled Adelaide bus manufacturer
I hope they are building battery electric buses, not hybrid or hydrogen. Look offshore to see all the hydrogen vehicles being mothballed, it is a proven no goer for transport.
I live in hope. – David Tuff
Commenting on the Your views and the story: Adelaide University says goodbye to face-to-face lectures
Further to readers’ opinions questioning the apparent decision to do away with traditional university lectures in the new merged institution, it is interesting to note David Penberthy’s recollections as an Arts student at the University of Adelaide in the late 1980s, printed in the Autumn 2024 edition of Lumen, ‘the University of Adelaide’s peak magazine – for and about the University’.
Penberthy recalls ‘the awe and excitement so many of our lecturers and tutors inspired. Austin Gough’s stunning lecture series about the creation of modern Paris. Trevor Wilson with his devastating human account of the suffering of trench soldiers in World War One. Paul Nursey-Bray on the byzantine ideological battles of the Spanish Civil War. Helen Pringle giving modern relevance to the oldest political ideas’.
It seems doubtful that such lectures to a collective audience present on the occasion could have had the same impact if accessed online by individual students at any time of day or night. – Wilfrid Prest, Emeritus Professor of History and Law, University of Adelaide
