Like Atkinson, I am very interested in my settler history, but I’m also aware that museums and monuments celebrate the past and dead from a single perspective and a single point in time.

Interesting perspective, Alan. You are right that personal connections make history come alive. We are soon going to Perth to retrace the steps of an ancestor who was a convict there in 1868.
Maybe the history of the police barracks can somehow be retained in the Gaol complex? The building itself is unremarkable. – Valerie Mobley

Well done for putting the brakes on that particular development. It was far too tall and out of proportion to surrounding buildings – and wrap around advertising? Even worse! Back to the drawing board – literally. – Deborah Parsons
