With over 12 years of experience in commercial and corporate banking, James Gallagher brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role of Export Finance Australia State Director, positioning him perfectly to support South Australian businesses in their growth and expansion efforts.

Gallagher joins the team with experience across a wide range of industries, including mining services, property, advanced manufacturing and professional services.

Based in Adelaide, Gallagher is the local lead for South Australian businesses looking to explore finance solutions to support their global growth plans, including the delivery of domestic projects and contracts with an export nexus.

“We work with businesses directly, but also accounting and advisory firms that are the trusted advisers of the businesses,” Gallagher said.

“We also partner with banks to help support their customers with finance for export-related opportunities.”

Export Finance Australia’s approach to supporting businesses is centred around building an understanding of the needs of the business to deliver the right tailored solutions to take South Australian businesses global.

“We start with a conversation: What do you need, why, and how will this contract, project, or investment help your business or your client’s business?” Gallagher said.

“Then, we work with the company to deliver a solution that meets those specific needs.”

Whether it is working capital to support daily operations, finance to fulfil a new contract or security to enable a business to expand into new markets, Export Finance Australia’s tailored solutions are designed to fit the unique circumstances of Australian businesses taking on the world.

Export Finance Australia has a strong track record of supporting South Australian businesses across a variety of sectors, including Seed Terminator, MyVenue and Bec Hardy Wines.

Seed Terminator is an innovative South Australian business that manufactures a harvester attachment that can kill most weed seeds before they can grow, improving crop yield and reducing herbicide use.

The first commercial release of the Seed Terminator came in 2019, followed soon after by an export opportunity to supply products to Europe and North America.

Seed Terminator cofounder and executive director Mark Ashenden said Export Finance Australia supported the business with finance to grow its presence in the world’s largest grain markets in the Northern Hemisphere.

“Export Finance Australia’s support over the last few years has been critical. Without its help, we would not be where we are today,” he added.

MyVenue implements fast, hardware-agnostic and highly scalable point-of-sale software solutions for the sports, entertainment and hospitality sectors.

After establishing a footprint in the Australian hotel and sporting club sectors, MyVenue was selected as the POS provider for a minor league Kansas City (USA) baseball stadium in March 2021.

MyVenue’s reputation quickly grew across North America, and by the end of the year, two more multi-purpose NFL stadiums also elected to install its technology.

MyVenue chief financial officer Rebekah Pipinias said Export Finance Australia provided a loan to support the company with the additional working capital required to continue to scale the business for export growth.

“Export Finance Australia truly understood our business and what we were trying to achieve and wanted to support us on that journey,” Pipinias said.

Bec Hardy Wines is a family-owned wine business based in one of South Australia’s premier wine regions, McLaren Vale. The business produces and sells wine, has a cellar door, and holds functions at its Tipsy Hill Estate.

After investigating other large Australian wine export markets, namely the US, Europe and the UK, Bec Hardy Wines identified the US as a significant opportunity for growth.

Export Finance Australia supported Bec Hardy Wines to take on three highly profitable US contracts: two with Costco and one for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

“Without the finance from Export Finance Australia, those profitable opportunities just would not have happened – it’s as simple as that,” said Richard Dolan, the company’s director of sales and marketing.

Export Finance Australia is Australia’s export credit agency. It provides a range of finance solutions, including loans, bonds and guarantees, to support Australian exports and businesses that provide goods or services as part of an export-related supply chain.

With export finance specialists located across Australia, Export Finance Australia has been instrumental in supporting exporters and businesses in the export supply chain.

For those looking for financial support to expand internationally or finance to deliver on a contract with an Australian exporter, Gallagher said he is “here to help”.

“I’m looking forward to building on the significant momentum within the organisation and working closely with South Australian and Northern Territory businesses that are looking for support to access global opportunities,” he said.
