No longer stuff of dreams, a good night’s sleep is here

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential if you want to reduce the risk of serious health issues and be at the top of your game during the day.

A federal government inquiry into sleep health found sleep deprivation was costing the economy more than $66 billion a year and a 2019 YouGov study found one in three Australians weren’t getting enough sleep.

While shift work, having late-night snacks and indulging in too much screen-time before bed are all known causes of tossing and turning, the mattress you sleep on can sometimes come between you and a better night’s sleep.

“Mattresses start to sag over time and the comfort layers begin breaking down,” That’s Furniture & Bedding director Karl Ats says.

“This causes pressure points which can cause you to wake up with a sore back or aches in your neck or shoulder.

“They also begin to lose their ability to relieve pressure and support your body, which is why it’s important to consider upgrading and trading in.”

Ats, who has been in the mattress game for more than 30 years, says these problems are being exacerbated by cheap online-ordered mattresses.

The second-generation furniture store owner, who runs the furniture chain alongside wife Anne-Marie, reinforced the importance of buying locally-made mattresses.

“We are seeing a lot of customers who have bought these cheap mattresses online, had it delivered in four weeks and then find it’s got poor support and leaves them feeling hot during the night,” Ats says.

“A lot of these customers are young people who have developed aches and pains because they’ve gone for price over product.

“While it might save you upfront, the cost of chiropractors and new mattresses could reach into the thousands of dollars if you buy something you haven’t tried.

“When you shop with us, you get expert advice and you don’t have to sacrifice your comfort for the cost of a mattress – you can have both.”

That’s Furniture and Bedding partners with some of South Australia’s leading mattress brands, including the locally-made Adriatic Slumber, who manufacture the best of the best in mattresses.

The Dry Creek manufacturer has been making mattresses for more than 50 years using cutting-edge tools and only the best materials. This includes using orthopaedic springs, trademark mini jumbuck wool, and heat-distributing cooling foams to give you extra comfort.

They also stock respected mattress brands such as AH Beard and Comfort Sleep. In most cases, the mattresses come with a warranty up to 10 years.

In the lead up to Christmas, both That’s Furniture & Bedding’s Marion Rd and Evanston South stores are letting you trade in your old mattress for a brand-new one, with $1000 off.

“These manufacturers are some of the best in the business and really pride themselves on producing mattresses that are top-of-the-line,” Ats says.

“While you will find you sleep better and perform at 110% during the day, you’re also not breaking the bank to do it.”

If you’re chasing a new mattress, contact That’s Furniture & Bedding Marion on 8296 1514 or their Evanston clearance outlet on 8522 5100.
