Flinders University announces new Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Flinders University has appointed Professor Raymond Chan as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) after an international search to fill the role.

Chan joined Flinders University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences as a Matthew Flinders Professor in 2021.

He currently holds dual roles as the Dean of Research for Nursing and Health Sciences and as Director of the Caring Futures Institute.

Chan’s academic background has seen him receive $37 million in research funding and generate 220 peer-reviewed publications.

In 2014, Chan was awarded the Queensland Premier’s Award for Excellence in Leadership and in 2018 he received the Queensland University of Technology Vice Chancellor Award for Excellence in Leadership.

He was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2021 – the highest honour in the field of nursing science.

He currently serves as Secretary for the Board of Directors of The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer.

Chan commences in the role on 1 January 2023 and will retain a part-time position within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Maggie Beer appoints CFO

Maggie Beer Holdings Limited has appointed Craig Louttit as Chief Financial Officer.

Louttit was most recently Chief Financial Officer for The a2 Milk Company where he worked for seven years.

He held finance roles with the engineering services company UGL Limited from 2007 to 2013.

Louttit also worked as Director of Financial Analysis for EMI Music – one of the world’s “Big Four” record companies.

The appointment comes as the current Chief Financial Officer, Eddie Woods, announced he will retire in September 2023.

Woods has been with the Maggie Beer Group since 2017 as Chief Financial Officer and has worked in similar roles for Defence Health Limited and State Trustees.

Louttit commenced in the role on 24 July 2023 and will work alongside Woods until September 2023.

Wheels turning at Torrens Transit

Andrew Jenkinson has been appointed Managing Director of Torrens Transit – Adelaide Metro’s bus service operator.

Jenkinson joins Torrens Transit from the equipment rental company Coates where he was Regional Manager of South Australia.

He was Regional Manager of Industrial and Waste Services for Cleanaway Waste Management, managing contracts for BHP’s Olympic Dam mine, Liberty Primary Steel in Whyalla, Nyrstar in Port Pirie and Adelaide Brighton Cement.

He spent more than three decades with the supply chain management companies TNT and CEVA Logistics (formerly TNT Logistics) where he began as a Fleet Controller and worked his way up to Vice President of Contract Logistics for Australia and New Zealand.

Jenkinson takes the reins from Sharon Brown who joined Torrens Transit in 2000 as Senior Area Manager and was appointed Managing Director in 2021.

Professional defence industry member association Defence Teaming Centre (DTC) has appointed Libby Day as Chief Executive Officer.

Day joins the association from the Australia Medic Alert Foundation where she was Chief Executive Officer.

She has formerly worked as Director of Market Access and Government Policy for the Asia Pacific at the healthcare company Baxter Internation Inc and was Head of Corporate Affairs for the pharmaceutical company Roche.

Day currently serves as Deputy Chair of the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre and is an Advisor to the Medical Technology Association of Australia.

She replaces former DTC Chief Executive Officer Audra McCarthy.

BDO Australia promotions

Audit, tax and advisory firm BDO Australia has promoted two employees to Director in Adelaide.

Amanda Laming joined the firm in 2013 as a Manager before being promoted to Senior Manager in 2017.

She is a former Manager of PKF Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers and worked as a Senior Accountant for KPMG from 2006 to 2009.

Laming is a Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Annetay Henderson-Sapir started with BDO in 2020 as Senior Manager of Advisory Services.

She was Director of Governance and Research at TAFE SA from 2016 to 2019 and formerly worked for the Department of the Premier and Cabinet as Deputy Director of the Cabinet Office.

Henderson-Sapir serves as President of the Jewish Community Council of South Australia and as Vice President of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry.

She formerly served as South Australian President of the Jewish National Fund and as a Member of the Board of Directors for the feminist organisation YWCA Australia.

Building defence for SA

Australian construction company Sitzler Pty Ltd has appointed two new defence leaders in South Australia.

Based in the Adelaide office, Jan Baillie has taken on the role of Project Director for Defence while Chris Wilcox has been appointed Defence Submissions Manager.

Bailie joins Sitzler from the New Zealand Defence Force where she was a Senior Procurement Specialist in Construction responsible for coordinating multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects.

She has previously worked for the Department of Defence of Australia as a Senior Project Officer and Deputy Director of Infrastructure.

Wilcox joins the company from the commercial real estate company JLL where he was Project Director and Defence State Lead for South Australia.

He was a Project Manager for the planning and development management consultancy RPS Australia Asia Pacific and served as the Senior Project Officer for the Department of Defence of Australia from 2011 to 2014.

The South Australian natural gas company Coopers Energy has appointed Nicole Ortigosa as General Counsel and Company Secretary.

Ortigosa joined the company six years ago as Corporate Legal Counsel and was appointed Legal Manager in 2019.

She has been Acting General Counsel and Company Secretary since April 2023 and was offered the role permanently on 17 July 2023.

Ortigosa joined Coopers Energy from MinterEllison where she was a Senior Associate.

She has previously been an Associate for the international law firm Clifford Chance LLP and a Lawyer for Norman Waterhouse Lawyers.

Star Pharmacy Group has appointed two new members to its information technology team.

Brendon Hore has been appointed Chief Technology Officer.

He joins the company from his role as Chief Technology Officer for Peregrine Corporation.

Prior to joining Peregrine, Hore was Rollout Manager of IT Projects at Bunnings for more than a decade.

He currently serves as a Non-Executive Director of DataMesh Group.

Hore is joined by Adam Hardin who has been appointed IT Engineering Services Manager.

Hardin joined Star Pharmacy Group from Peregrine Corporation where he was an IT Manager.

He formerly worked for Hewlett Packard Enterprise as a Technical Team Leader and as Service Delivery Lead for the Asia Pacific region.

Change of leadership for ILF

Richard Barrett has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Industry Leaders Fund (ILF) – a South Australian organisation that funds further education for business industry leaders.

He is the former Chief Executive Officer of the pharmaceutical company MedTEC South Australia and worked for the global plastics manufacturer Scholle Corporation for over two decades.

Barrett is a Director for MedTEC Capital and Vinehealth Australia and formerly served as Chair of the consultancy firm Harrison McMillan Pty Ltd.

Barrett takes the reins from retired Chief Executive Officer Geoff Vogt who joined ILF in 2010.

Prior to joining the organisation, Vogt was Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Accident Commission South Australia for over a decade. 

He served in the Australian Army Reserve for 45 years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded an Australia Day Medal in 2022.

Vogt remains a Director of KeyInvest Ltd, the Chairman of the Advisory Board for accounting firm UHY Sothertons Adelaide and Deputy Chair of the Brownhill Keswick Creek Stormwater Authority.

Taking a seat at KOJO

Jamie McClurg has been appointed Chair for the Board of KOJO – a creative marketing company focusing on sports, experiences and entertainment.

McClurg is the Founder and Executive Chairman of the property company Commercials & General which was established in 1997.

He has been a Director at KOJO since 2018 and steps into the new role from the outgoing Chair, Steve Wise.

Wise has spent 19 years with the company, joining in 2004 as a Shareholder and Board Chair.

He will continue with the company as a Director.
