Making history at the Museum

The South Australian Museum has appointed three new Board Members.

Marnie Hughes-Warrington is the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Enterprise at the University of South Australia and previously held positions at The Australian National University, Monash University, Macquarie University and the University of Washington.

Adjunct Professor of Biology at the University of South Australia and Adjunct Professor of Zoology at Adelaide University, Chris Daniels is also the Presiding Member of the Green Adelaide Board and CEO of the not-for-profit organisation Koala Life.

Aboriginal educator Vicki Wilson joins the Board in addition to being the incoming Chair of the South Australian Museum’s Aboriginal Partnership Committee.

The appointments come after Andrew Charmichael commenced as Chair of the Museum Foundation Board in April 2023 after former Chair Mary Sutherland served the maximum nine-year term and the museum appointed David Gaimster as the new CEO.

Defence Teaming Centre CEO steps down

The Defence Teaming Centre is looking to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer as current CEO Audra McCarthy has decided to step down from the role when her contract expires on June 30.

McCarthy has worked for the Lot Fourteen-based business for five years, four of them as CEO.

McCarthy is currently Industry Co-Chair of the Maritime Environmental Working Group for the Royal Australian Navy and volunteers on the Advisory Board of the Centre for Enterprise Dynamics in Global Economics for the University of South Australia.

Mandy Hall

Master chef fights food waste

MasterChef alumna Mandy Hall has been appointed Communications Manager of the not-for-profit organisation Fight Food Waste.

Hall was a contestant on MasterChef Australia in 2019 and established and runs Mandy Hall Food.

She has been an Ambassador of Foodbank South Austalia & Central Australia since 2019.

Hall’s role commenced on April 17 and is located at Fight Food Waste’s Head Office at the Waite Research Centre in Adelaide. 

Stacey Northover

Housing a new Executive General Manager

Believe Housing Australia, the housing branch of AnglicareSA, has appointed Stacey Northover as its Executive General Manager.

Northover joined Believe Housing Australia in January 2021 as Head of Housing Operations.

She previously worked in England as Assistant Director of Housing and Customer Experience at Bournemouth Churches Housing Association and Senior Housing Officer for Sovereign Housing Group.

Northover currently serves as a Member of the Board for the Community Housing Council of South Australia.

Alan Johncock

New Head for ECH

Alan Johncock has been appointed Head of Property and Retirement Living of South Australian home care provider Enabling Confidence at Home (ECH).

Johncock joins ECH after four years as Executive General Manager of aged care service provider Blue Cross Group and eight years as National Manager of Operations for Melbourne property development and funds management company Charter Hall.

He is currently Non Executive Director of the facility and asset management software company FMClarity.

Corporate Position: the latest executive employment opportunities

The Cohen Group, a private South Australian business that manages retail, commercial and industrial properties, is looking to appoint a Centre General Manager for Burnside Village. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this executive retail role will lead and manage one of Australia’s most successful retail centres during a time of development and growth. 

Commercial and industrial door specialist Vulcan Doors Pty Ltd is looking to appoint an inaugural General Manager. Reporting to the Managing Directors, the appointee will establish and implement a contemporary management structure for the operations and work closely with the owners to drive the company’s future development to optimise growth and expansion opportunities. The role is offered on a full-time or part-time basis.

Supporting Bedford Group

Bedford Group, South Australia’s largest employer of people with disability, has appointed three new Board Members – all with lived experience of disability.

Paul Edginton is the current Chief Executive Officer of wine sales company Vinomofo and was previously Chief Executive Officer of not-for-profit organisation SYC.

He was also previously on the Board of the VET Advisory Board for the Department of Education and Training and was the Inaugural Chair of the White Ribbon SA Committee.

Consultant at Lyons Consulting, Wayne Lyons is also the Director of Adelaide Meeting Room Hire and the Executive Chairman of Executive Boards Australia.

Tim Covark is the current Product Development Manager of the accounting and bookkeeping software company Cashflow Manager.

Briony Hutchens

Partnering with Finlaysons

Finlaysons Lawyers has appointed Briony Hutchens as Partner.

She joins the firm from her role as Director at DW Fox Tucker Lawyers.

Hutchens has been recognised as a top Wealth Management and Succession Planning lawyer by Best Lawyers Australia since 2017 and received Lawyer of the Year awards in 2022 and 2023.

Micheal Fenton

Taking a role with Credit Union SA

Micheal Fenton has been appointed Head of Development Finance at Credit Union SA.

Fenton joins Credit Union SA from Commonwealth Bank where he was Head of Property South Australia.

He has previously held positions with CBRE, St George Bank and ANZ.

Nadeeka Weeraman

Staying accountable

Self-managed super fund accounting company SMSF Australia has appointed Nadeeka Weeraman as Principal SMSF Accountant.

Weeraman has previously been employed as an SMSF Accountant at accounting firms Y Partners, H & R Block and SuperConcepts.

She is currently a Member of the Institute of Public Accountants.

Angela Evans

Esteemed award for Charles Sturt Mayor

City of Charles Sturt Mayor Angela Evans has been awarded the Local Government Association of South Australia’s (LGA SA) Joy Baluch Award.

Evans has worked for the City of Charles Sturt since 2010, first as Deputy Mayor and Councillor for the West Woodville Ward before being elected Mayor in 2014. 

She recently completed a term as President of LGA SA.

The Joy Baluch Award honours the late former President of LGA SA and Port Augusta Mayor Joy Baluch and is awarded to outstanding female leaders currently serving as elected members of South Australian councils.
