Woman charged over fatal crash near Victor Harbor

A 20-year-old woman has been charged after the van she was driving hit a tree south of Adelaide and a passenger died.

Police were called to the intersection of Ocean Road and Port Elliot Road at Hayborough, 84 km south of Adelaide, after a van hit a tree at 4:30 pm on Sunday.

A 59-year-old Davoren Park woman, who was a wheelchair passenger, died in the crash.

The driver, a 20-year-old Northfield woman, and the front passenger, a 30-year-old Croydon Park woman, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Major Crash Investigators arrested the driver on Monday night.

She was charged with causing death by careless use of a motor vehicle and causing injury by careless use of a motor vehicle and was issued with an instant loss of licence for an indefinite time.

The woman was granted police bail and will appear at Christies Beach Magistrates Court on November 15.

The state’s road toll is now 60.
