Police said officers were called to a Lightsview address before 5.30am Sunday following reports of a man in an agitated state. An ambulance was called and he was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Just before midnight on Sunday, police went to a Mawson Lakes address following emergency calls and reports a woman was being threatened.
Officers attempted to enter but said a man armed with a sword prevented them. A taser was then used through a door opening and police gained entry and restrained the man, who they said had “significant” injuries to his limbs which were believed to be self-inflicted.
He was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but died. A 41-year-old woman who had barricaded herself in a bedroom received an arm injury and was treated in hospital. Police said the two knew each other but were not currently in a relationship.
Police said the 44-year-old Globe Derby man was the same person they had responded to at Lightsview that morning.
Major Crime detectives are now conducting a coronial investigation and a Commissioner’s inquiry will also be held.
