If this move is truly about improving safety and reducing congestion, council and the traders will also no doubt support removal of all kerbside parking along this proposed speed-reduced stretch. – Kym Smith
Lowering the speed limit on Unley Rd to 50km per hour is a sensible idea. It would make Unley Road safer, improve traffic flow and have negligible effect on commute times.
Better still, improve public transport and keep more cars out of the city. – Graeme McLeay
Given that for much of the time it is almost impossible to travel by road at faster than 50kph along Unley Road for most of the route, this would be a sensible way to regularise the reality. And especially so given the on-street car-parking that, of necessity, also interrupts traffic movement. – Greg Mackie
Wow, the councillors have done everything but address the issue. Allowing parking – not reviewing clearway times.
There are so many areas in their council that cause traffic mayhem because someone parks on a main road and blocks flow. Even at 50, dodging in and out of cars parked in dangerous places will still cause issues.
Take it out of their hands and ban parking in that entire strip from 5am to 8pm or similar. – Gary Oliver
