The Morphett Vale school won an initial $12 million of funding in the state’s 2021 to 2022 capital works program, which was topped up with $3 million by Education Minister Blair Boyer in April to ensure the major upgrade goes ahead despite rising building costs across the state.

Its focus is on building contemporary learning areas, a new administration building and demolishing old buildings.

“The new development at Pimpala Primary School will see the very best in education infrastructure and will support community inclusion and accessible space,” Boyer said of the school that teaches all of its students the Australian sign language Auslan and has a Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden program.

“The $15 million project will cater for projected enrolment capacity in the southern suburbs and ensure that our students and teachers have a world-class learning environment.”

The latest upgrade follows extensive upgrades to school across the state after Year Seven students were moved into public high schools for the first time.

Construction on the Studio Nine Architects design will start at the beginning of next year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, the school will remain open during the work.

Local Reynell MP and minister Katrine Hildyard said the community had “faced challenges and embraced opportunities together over the years and has long advocated for these crucial upgrades”.

“The Pimpala Primary School community is one that is supportive of every one of its members and that aims to ensure students have the best opportunities to learn, develop and grow, and to emotionally, physically, socially and mentally thrive,” Hildyard said.
