SA jobless rate rises from record low
South Australia’s unemployment rate has jumped from last month’s record low to be once again Australia’s highest, as the national rate climbed slightly to 3.7 per cent.

Australian Bureau of Statistics data released this morning showed the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment in April climbed from 3.7 per cent in March to 4.3 per cent.
The national rate by comparison climbed by 0.1 per cent to 3.7 per cent in April.
Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania shared equal second place on 3.9 per cent, followed by Western Australia with 3.6 per cent and New South Wales on 3.4 per cent.
South Australia’s participation rate also dropped slightly from 64.5 per cent in March, to 64.2 per cent, while the underemployment rate increased from 7.3 per cent to 7.6 per cent – the nation’s highest alongside Tasmania.
The national underemployment rate fell to 6.1 per cent, while the participation rate dipped to 66.7 per cent.
Nationally, the ABS said employment dropped by around 4000, while around 18,000 fewer jobs overall were recorded.
Full-time employment dropped by 27,100 to 9.72 million, but there were 22,000 more part-time jobs for a total of 4.15 million.
