The RBT had been operating at Seaton on Tuesday evening when the officer indicated for a car to enter the site.

Police allege the silver Holden Captiva, stopped for a short time before driving off. The officer reached through the window in an attempt to stop the vehicle leaving.

They say the driver closed the window, trapping the officer’s arm before swinging him from the vehicle.

The injured policeman was treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being admitted to hospital.

On Wednesday night detectives arrested a 46-year-old man over the incident and charged him with endangering life, causing harm by dangerous driving, failing to answer questions and other traffic offences.

They are still trying to find the car involved.
