Just after 1pm yesterday, emergency crews were called to a point about four kilometres south of the town between Range Road and Vasey Road where a Holden station wagon and a Nissan sedan had collided.
The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan, a 75-year-old man from the Riverland and the driver and sole occupant of the Holden, a 78-year-old woman from Waterloo Corner, both died at the scene.
The Sturt Highway was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene but it was later reopened to all traffic.
Their deaths are the eighth and ninth lives lost on our roads this year in just 18 days compared to just one for the same period last year.
