Police say the car was travelling north on the Augusta Highway at around 7.30pm when it left the road and crashed into a tree.

The 19-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old girl, both from Port Pirie, died at the scene. The front passenger, a 46-year-old Port Pirie man, was airlifted to Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries.

The Augusta Highway was closed for several hours while Major Crash Officers examined the scene but has been reopened.

The fatalities bring the state’s road toll to 69, compared to 99 at the same time last year.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl will be charged with murder after a man who was stabbed at Andrews Farm on Monday died in hospital last night.

The 55-year-old man was found injured in a Petherton Road house after patrols responded to reports of a domestic assault.

The man was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with life-threatening injuries but died last night.

A 16-year-old girl from the home was arrested and charged with attempted murder, but the charges will now be upgraded. She was refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court.
