Adelaide Fringe deputy chair Lisa Bishop, former Lord Mayor Martin Haese and former Formula One race director Michael Masi are all among the new team announced by the state government on Thursday.

Commercial lawyer Carolyn Mitchell will be deputy chair.

Commercial & General executive chairman Jamie McClurg and Ernst and Young managing partner Mark Phelps will also join the board, along with Hurley Group hotelier Anna Hurley and former News Corp SA managing director Ish Davies.

A spokesman from the state government said the board members are a group of ‘the state’s leading administrators’ and that preparations for the event are racing ahead.

“A major sponsor has been secured, musical acts announced, tickets on sale, track resurfacing works underway and grandstand construction is set to begin,” the spokesman said.

After winning the election in March, the State Government announced the board would be chaired by outgoing Adelaide Oval chief Andrew Daniels, with motor sport administrator Mark Warren appointed chief executive.

Formerly known as the Clipsal 500 and now the Valo Adelaide 500, the race was axed by the former Marshall Government in 2020 before the $18m event was rebooted by the Malinauskas government as an election promise.

In August the state government announced that international heavyweights The Killers will headline the race’s concert series, as well as homegrown hero Jimmy Barnes and more.

The Adelaide 500 will be held in Victoria Park between December 1-4 with a variety of motorsport events on show including the supercars series, the Dunlop Super2 Series, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia, Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters and S5000 Tasman Series.
