The site, officially launched this week, will include regular articles from two star experts – Flinders Head of American Studies Professor Don DeBats and Flinders PhD Candidate and two-time Washington Intern Jesse Barker Gale.
Professor DeBats is a frequent commentator on US politics and has written extensively on US political history. His previous research appointments include the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the National Humanities Center of the United States, and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities at the University of Virginia.
Mr Barker Gale has a strong academic and practical background in the American domestic and foreign policy fields. His PhD thesis analyses the development of the US-Japan-Australia trilateral relationship through the theoretical prism of a security community.
His significant connections with the US Democratic party, thanks to two competitive internships in the US House of Representatives (Representative Mike Ross (D-Arkansas, 2012) and Representative Jim McDermott (D-Washington, 2015) give him the inside track on all things Democrat.
Professor DeBats’ decades of research and extensive knowledge of the Republican Party, meanwhile, make him arguably Australia’s foremost commentator on the GOP (GrandOld Party).
Leveraging its position as the leading source of expertise on US politics, Flinders is also offering additional media access to commentators including:
Dr Rodrigo Praino, Flinders University – specialist area: Candidates, political parties, elections and voter behaviour
Dr Sarah John, Research Director of FairVote.Org – specialist area: US electoral systems
Dr Maryann Kelton, Flinders University – specialist area: Foreign policy, Asia Pacific
As well as his regular blog, Professor DeBats will be available to media looking for detailed information and analysis on US voter demographics.
