Benefits for the Mt Lofty Ranges region

UNESCO World Heritage Sites – what makes a site unique, special and globally important, and what are the social, cultural and economic benefits?

James Rebanks (UK) examines World Heritage Sites across the world to discover how sites attract economic development. Rebanks will be in Adelaide next month to evaluate the economic benefits of the Mt Lofty Ranges World Hertiage bid, proposed by six South Australian councils. In particular, he will explore the benefits for the regions food, wine and tourism industries.

He will share his findings in the lecture, UNESCO World Heritage Site status: is there opportunity for economic gain? This event is co-presented by the Hawke Centre and the Mt Lofty Ranges World Heritage bid.

While the views presented by speakers within the Hawke Centre public program are their own and are not necessarily those of either the University of South Australia or The Hawke Centre, they are presented in the interest of open debate and discussion in the community and reflect our themes of: strengthening our democracy – valuing our diversity – and building our future.
