First Fridays – Art Gallery of SA

Coast is the theme of this month’s First Fridays after-hours event, which celebrates the significance of the ocean for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It will include performances by singers Frank Yamma and Zaachariaha Fielding and Yidaki player Jamie Goldsmith, guided tours of the gallery’s Tarnanthi exhibitions, and food and wine. Coast will also incorporate Pirrku Warrapina Live, a reading and storytelling project in which SA writers share their creative responses to Tarnanthi artworks. Full program details here.

Moonlight Cinema – Botanic Park

Outdoor cinema has returned to Botanic Park this week, with upcoming screenings including Australian family flick Oddball (Friday), Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette drama Miss You Already (Saturday), ghostly thriller Backtrack (Sunday), The Intern, Last Cab to Darwin and Suffragette. Zeppelin Flies Again – ASO

The rock and classical worlds will collide when Led Zeppelin tribute band the Zep Boys once again join the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for a performance that threatens to “blow the roof off the Festival Theatre”. Conducted by Hamish McKeich, the two Zeppelin Flies Again concerts will be presented at 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday.

An Evening with Oprah – AEC

Oprah Winfrey’s arena tour lands at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre tonight (Friday), with tickets still available. Promoters promise a “one-of-a-kind intimate evening” in which Winfrey will share her personal story and insights on life.

The Lost WW1 Diary – Bakehouse Theatre

 This show by Australian comedian Damian Callinan recounts his quest to uncover the identity of two diggers in an old family photo, which led to the discovery of a lost war diary in an op shop. After a successful season at the Adelaide Fringe, The Lost WW1 Diary – a blend of research, black humour and comedic characterisations – is briefly back at The Bakehouse, with the final performance tonight (December 4).

Archie Roach – The Gov

It’s 25 years since Archie Roach released his ARIA Award-winning debut album Charcoal Lane, which included the heartbreaking track “They Took the Children Away”. He’s celebrating with the release of a special anniversary-edition double CD, and a national tour that touches down at the Governor Hindmarsh on Sunday evening. On Saturday night, The Gov will rewind to the 1960s with the tribute show For Your Love: 60s British Rock Invasion.

 Max Savage EP launch – The Wheatie

Adelaide singer Max Savage is launching his new EP, The City and Everyone Inside, with a gig at the Wheatsheaf Hotel on Saturday night. He will be supported by Melbourne-based performer Rowena Wise.

Stereosonic – Bonython Park

Music festival Stereosonic lobs at Bonython Park on Saturday, with a line-up led by Major Lazer and including Peking Duk, Galantis, Armin Van Buuren and more. Last weekend’s event in Sydney was the subject of controversy after dozens of people were charged with drug offences and a young woman died of a suspected overdose, and police say they plan to use drug-detection dogs at the Adelaide festival.

State Theatre Company Costume and Vintage Sale

Theatrical costumes, period costuming, contemporary clothing, fabric, shoes, hats and accessories which have appeared in State Theatre Company of SA productions over the past 40 years will be among the items for sale to the public at the company’s Rehearsal Room at the Adelaide Festival Centre. It’s possible you might even pick up something worn by the likes of Mel Gibson, Hugo Weaving or Judy Davis. The sale runs from 10am-5pm on Saturday and 11am-4pm on Sunday, with access via the Dunstan Playhouse foyer.

Hollywood Retro Film Festival – Palace Nova

Twenty-two classic Hollywood films from the 1930s to the 1960s are being screened at Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas as part of the Hollywood Retro Film Festival. Tarnanthi art exhibitions

Tarnanthi Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art exhibitions encompassing painting, sculpture, multi-media and other artforms continue at the Art Gallery of South Australia until January 17. Other continuing Tarnanthi exhibitions include the Tarnanthi Textiles at Tandanya, Near Horizons at the Migration Museum, and Nganmarra – the Container of Life at the Santos Museum of Economic Botany. Flinders Street Market Christmas Bazaar

Flinders Street Market, in collaboration with Etsy South Australia, is holding a handmade Christmas gift fair in the big blue sheds on Flinders Street on Saturday and Sunday. With more than 100 stalls, shoppers will find gifts made from leather, fabric, clay, glass, wood, paper, resin and metal, as well as Christmas decorations, music, food and gift wrapping, including delicious artisan mince pies. Carclew Dusk Arts Market

The gardens of youth arts hub Carclew in North Adelaide will be transformed into a market with exhibitions, live entertainment, food vans and stalls selling hand-crafted jewellery, ceramics and glassware, visual art and sculptural objects by SA artists and designers. Visual art exhibitions will include work by Carclew artists-in-residence, and local arts organisations will be running information stalls. The market will be between 6pm and 9pm on Tuesday (December 8) at 11 Jeffcott Street.

Gilles Street Market Grand Bazaar

More than 140 stalls will be selling fashion, jewellery, interior design items and more at this bazaar from 10am-4pm on Sunday. There will also be food stalls, live music and DJs – plus fans and water stations in anticipation of the high temperatures. Details here.

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries costume exhibition

Close to 50 costumes created by award-winning costume designer Marion Boyce and featured in ABC TV’s third series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are on display in this exhibition at historic Ayres House Museum. Including themed rooms and interactive displays, the exhibition continues until February 14, 2016.

Adelaide Night Market

Held on the last Sunday of each month during daylight saving, Adelaide Night Market is located at Prince Henry Gardens on North Terrace in the city and features artisan gourmet produce and street food among an array of clothing, jewellery and craft. The Adelaide Night Market starts at 4pm and packs up at 8pm.
