The Hindley restaurant closes after seven months
The Hindley restaurant at the new HQ Complex in Adelaide’s West End has closed just seven months after its launch, with the complex operators saying they plan to focus solely on live entertainment.
The Hindley Bar and Grill.
The three-level HQ Complex opened at 149 Hindley Street amid much fanfare in November last year – the culmination of what was described as a $12 million project.
Chef Shane Piercy – who had previously worked at the Lion Hotel, Public Caffe, Zucca in Glenelg and The Sauce Restaurant in Dulwich – was appointed to head up the kitchen of The Hindley Bar and Grill on the venue’s ground level. It was promoted on the website as “Adelaide’s new bar and grill, with spectacular surroundings, quality food/drinks & nightly entertainment”.
However, a spokesperson confirmed to InDaily today that the restaurant had closed from this week, with the operators identifying that Hindley Street was more suited to live entertainment.
As a result, HQ Complex will now focus “purely on live entertainment”. The ground level will re-open in the coming weeks as a 600-person space for live music, “with some of the best up-and-coming talent, both nationally and locally, already booked to perform”.
HQ Complex director Stephen Rose was not available for further comment.
The Hindley served breakfast, lunch and dinner, with Piercy launching a new sharing-style menu in March with an emphasis on char-grilled and wood-oven-cooked meats.
At the time, Rose was quoted in a media release as saying that HQ Complex offered “something for everyone”.
“The new Hindley Street premise has been established as a purpose-built live music venue as well as a quality daytime food and catering offering and function space.”
While the restaurant closure means the loss of Piercy’s role, InDaily has been told that other staff from The Hindley have been redeployed in other areas of HQ Complex.
Alongside the increased focus on live music, HQ also launched a new fortnightly comedy night last week.
