Alongside the dawn service and Anzac Day March in the city, regional centres across South Australia are hosting their own Anzac Day services on Tuesday morning.

Some 108 years on, the traditional dawn stand-to commemorates the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps 1915 landing in Gallipoli during WWI and the beginning of an eight-month campaign to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey).

Many services will be accompanied by a ‘gunfire breakfast’, which traditionally includes coffee or tea with rum alongside hot food, like bacon and eggs, to give the troops a boost before going into battle. Check with local councils to see what they have on offer.

In Port Broughton, the RSL and council have been working to create thousands of knitted red, white and purple poppies to decorate the Port Broughton foreshore in remembrance of those who served.

Port Broughton Mayor Leonie Kerley has contributed 500 poppies to the cause herself with the RSL announcing last week they had amassed approximately 2500 poppies.

The Port Broughton Poppy Fields will be on display at the Foreshore Monument for their dawn service.

For those taking Monday off from work for a long weekend, no matter where you are there will still be plenty of chances to pay your respects to those who fought and lost their lives.
