Producing an ‘alphabet of wine’ is about as unique an approach to releasing new wines as one can get.
It is a tool that has helped McLaren Vale winery Alpha Box & Dice break into the global wine scene as it champions South Australia’s emerging wine varieties, particularly the Mediterranean ones.
Each ‘letter’ embodies an individual winemaking project, with the end goal being a complete collection of wines that celebrates the diverse styles and varieties found in South Australia’s famous wine regions, including McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley.
A 40 Under 40 alumnus, owner and managing director Dylan Fairweather is known for growing the boutique winery into a nationally recognised brand.
With one of the leading direct-to-consumer business programs in Australia, he has taken the stuffiness out of wine exploration and enjoyment.
The Alpha Box & Dice wine club subscription plan goes by the hard-to-resist moniker of the Life Improvement Plan and gives their customers an approachable educational experience.
The winery further bends traditional norms, innovating at every step of the winemaking process.
Fairweather also founded online boutique bottle shop Sometimes Always, offering wine from ‘all walks of life and schools of thought’, celebrating lo-fi cult producers alongside proven classics.
Guests at this year’s InDaily 40 Under 40 Awards on June 8 at Adelaide Oval will be treated to the Tarot range of wines from Alpha Box & Dice’s world-famous alphabet of wine, a dynamic suite of crowd-favourite varieties and styles.
Tarot was one of the first letters they made for their Alphabet and relates back to a different card of the Major Arcana that they feel reflects the wine.
Made from grapes sourced from local growers and handcrafted with the same attention given to all of their wines, the Tarot range is the gateway to the wonderful world of Alpha Box & Dice.

Tickets are $191.90 for individuals and $1801.35 for tables of 10 (including booking fee) and include a delicious three-course meal paired with premium Alpha Box & Dice wines.
