Hendon Semiconductors received a grant under the state government’s Economic Recovery Fund to bolster its range and accelerate the speed of development and production of medical products.

The Adelaide-based manufacturer received more than $600,000 from the ERF, which will support the company’s $1.25 million facility upgrade.

Hendon Semiconductors will add a clean room and sterilisation facilities to its Hendon-based manufacturing centre under the upgrade plan, enabling an expansion to service medical and defence clients.

Once the upgrades are complete, Hendon Semiconductors aims to make more products in South Australia to export to international markets.

Hendon Semiconductors executive general manager Brenton Judge said he was grateful for the state government’s support.

“Having been manufacturing in the western suburbs of Adelaide for 65 years, Hendon Semiconductors is passionate about creating jobs in our community,” Judge said.

“Too many great medical device ideas have been sold off both prematurely and cheaply because of the lack of infrastructure and cost of developing products in South Australia, we’re keen to change that and appreciate the government’s support in doing so.”

More than $26 million in financial assistance was offered to 17 applicants in the opening round of the $154 million ERF.

Other companies that received funding from round one included ASX-listed AML3D ($1.1 million in funds), Daych Services ($850,000), entX Limited ($1.9 million), George Street Steel ($460,000) and Inovor Technologies ($2 million).

Treasurer Stephen Mullighan said the ERF supported local businesses “to grow and increase productivity”.

“The expansion at Hendon Semiconductors is an example of what can be achieved when the government and business work together to create jobs and grow SA’s economy.

“I encourage SA businesses to look at the eligibility criteria for future rounds of the ERF and put forward their best business case.”
