Radio ratings: New leader in Adelaide as ABC sinks further

Mix 102.3 has lost the lead in Adelaide’s radio ratings, with the key breakfast battle also seeing a significant shift.

The latest GfK radio ratings, released today, show Triple M moving back into the lead despite losing some listener share, with Mix losing more to fall behind their FM rivals.

After a bounce-back in the previous survey, Mix has lost ground across the schedule, but still remains in clear second place with 11.4 per cent of listener share – not far behind Triple M on 11.7.

Nova remains in third place (10.6) followed by SAFM (10.0). FIVEaa and Cruise are locked on equal share of 9.1 per cent, with ABC Radio Adelaide last on 7.6.

In breakfast, FIVEaa – which otherwise had a flat survey – moved into equal first place with Triple M. The talk station’s team of David Penberthy and Will Goodings now share top spot with Triple M’s Mark Ricciuto, Chris Dittmar and Laura O’Callaghan, both with 12.2 per cent of listener share.

Mix’s Ali Clarke Breakfast Show fell back from third to sixth after a strong previous survey.

The ABC’s Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz have moved into third place from fourth.

Otherwise, though, it was another bleak survey for ABC Radio Adelaide. Just over a year ago, the station was Adelaide’s leader, but it has been the bottom of the seven surveyed local stations throughout 2023.

Apart from breakfast, the ABC’s programs rank in the bottom reaches of the local stations. Its next best performing program is David Bevan in mornings, where his 8.3 per cent of listener share puts him in fifth place. It is non-competitive across the rest of the weekday and weekend programs.

The ABC’s listener base is strongest in the over 65 demographic, where it usually leads. In this survey, though, the ABC fell behind FIVEaa and Cruise among the oldest listeners.

In mornings, Triple M held on to first place, despite losing share. In afternoons, Mix took the lead from Triple M.

In drive, Nova retained the lead, while FIVEaa dominates in the evenings. On the weekend, Nova took the lead from Mix.
