Radio ratings: Revolution fails to stop Triple M juggernaut
Triple M has extended its lead in Adelaide’s radio ratings battle, with a long-awaited new methodology for gathering listener data making little difference to the overall picture.

The rock and footy station made a surprise surge to the top of the ratings table in the previous survey and the latest data confirms that was no fluke, with Triple M’s performance led by a now dominant breakfast line-up of Chris Dittmar, Mark Ricciuto and Laura O’Callaghan.
The trio rose to the top in the previous survey, and have extended their lead, while the former breakfast leaders, FIVEaa’s David Penberthy and Will Goodings, fell further behind in second place.
ABC Radio Adelaide’s Stacey Lee and Nikolai Beilharz improved slightly to take back third place in breakfast.

The GfK ratings survey released this morning was the most keenly anticipated in years, with the data agency finally introducing its so-called “Radio 360” methodology. The new system incorporates streaming data as well as a panel of listeners using special smartwatches that can detect listening habits.
However, the changes appeared to have little impact on the Adelaide numbers.
Triple M extended its lead at the top, with Mix remaining in second place with a slightly improved performance. Nova remained in third place despite losing share, followed by FIVEaa, Cruise, SAFM and ABC Radio Adelaide again in last place of the local stations.
In breakfast, leaders Triple M increased listener share to 15.1 per cent, while FIVEaa lost some ground to fall to 12.5. The commercial talk station still remains well clear of a slightly improved ABC Radio Adelaide (11.1), with Nova coming in next (10.1). SAFM’s breakfast team of Rebecca Morse and Mark Soderstrom fared worst of any shift under the new regime, dropping a huge 2.4 percentage points to fall to 8.2 per cent behind Ali Clarke’s breakfast show on Mix (which also lost share to hit 8.9).
In mornings, Triple M increased its lead over Mix, while Mix was the leader in afternoons, by a reduced margin over Triple M.
In Drive, Nova lost share but kept its lead. Talk radio fared poorly in this shift, with FIVEaa and ABC Radio Adelaide in the two bottom spots, the latter recording a paltry 5.8 per cent of listener share.
In the evenings, FIVEaa remained dominant.

Today’s survey separates out streaming and digital listenership for the first time, which shows some interesting variations from the overall picture.
While digital listener share is broadly similar, streaming listenership is markedly different.
All AM stations fare better in streaming. Overall, the Adelaide leader in streaming is classic hits station Cruise, followed by FIVEaa, ABC Radio Adelaide and Triple M.
