Attorney-General Kyam Maher announced on Friday that Naomi Kereru has been appointed to the position, joining current Deputy State Coroner Ian White.
The state government allocated $1.1 million to appoint another Deputy State Coroner and associated staff under the 2024 State Budget.
Kereru previously served as a temporary coroner in 2022, assisting with the court’s workload at the time.
She has worked in the court extensively, having also worked as a prosecutor and Counsel Assisting the State Coroner.
Kereru has also served as a duty solicitor at the Legal Services Commission and as a barrister working on public inquiries, inquests, and personal injury law matters.
Attorney-General Kyam Maher congratulated Kereru on her “much-needed position”.
“In providing this funding to the Coroner’s Court for this work, we are recognising the importance of both the Court and the work they do throughout the community,” he said.
