Louise Kleinig will begin in the Magistrates Court on Monday, replacing Paul Foley in his retirement.
Kleinig has worked in the Prosecution Group of the Crown Solicitor’s Office’s Public Law Section for the past seven years.
During this time she appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Attorney-General for high-risk offender applications, and carried out several regulatory prosecutions.
She has experience as a criminal prosecutor, having advised the South Australian Police on organised crime investigations into dark web-based cybercrime.
Kleinig was heavily involved in ensuring Crown Solicitor’s Office services were provided across the government throughout the pandemic.
The solicitor has also worked internationally, serving as both a prosecutor and prosecution adviser in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
She was a senior legal officer with South Australia’s Independent Commission Against Corruption and a senior solicitor in the Crown Solicitor Office’s Serious and Organised Crime Section.
Attorney-General Kyam Maher said Kleinig had “taken on complex matters” throughout her career.
“She has often been required to get up to speed on highly complex matters within a very short period of time, and provide detailed, high-quality advice,” he said.
“She is an exceptional appointment and I look forward to seeing her serve her time in the Magistracy with distinction.”
