New Cross Border Commissioner named

Kelly-Anne Saffin has been appointed Cross Border Commissioner by the Malinauskas Government.

The appointment follows the resignation of Liz McKinnon, who took up the role of SA’s first Commissioner in late 2022.

Saffin is currently the chief executive of Regional Development Australia (Adelaide) and spent a decade as CEO of Regional Development Australia (Yorke and Mid North).

The state government said that Saffin “will assist, identify opportunities and facilitate collaboration with her cross-border counterparts to enhance regional and economic development” and “will also work with other jurisdictions to enhance cooperation between bordering state and territory governments”.

The Malinauskas Government created the role of Cross Border Commissioner to “support South Australia’s regions, strengthen regional communities, and make them more attractive places to live, work and visit”.

New St Andrew’s Hospital CEO

Eileen Sawyer has been appointed CEO of St Andrew’s Hospital, to commence in early 2025.

The hospital said Sawyer “brings a wealth of senior level experience across a diverse range of industries and specialisations including aged care, property, infrastructure, hospitality and entertainment”.

St Andrew’s Hospital is located on South Terrace and said it “has provided medical and surgical excellence to South Australians for over 80 years”.

Expert panel aims to decarbonise heavy industry

Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC) CEO Jenny Selway has been appointed to the Industrial Decarbonisation and Green Metals Advisory Panel.

HILT CRC said the panel “is a commitment under the Future Made in Australia agenda to support investment in green metals and help heavy industry decarbonise”.

In addition to her role at HILT CRC, Selway is also a non-executive director at Gippsland Water.

HILT CRC was established in 2021 and “is an Australian-based collective venture linking industry, research and government organisations to develop and de-risk technologies that will create a low-carbon heavy industry sector and achieve Net Zero by 2050”.

Insolvency lawyer Ray Mansueto has been appointed as a consultant at WRP Legal & Advisory.

Mansueto has been principal at his firm Mansueto Legal for almost 12 years and before this, he was a partner at Minter Ellison and Piper Alderman.

WRP Legal & Advisory said Mansueto “is a pre-eminent insolvency lawyer with a wealth of experience in litigious and transactional work in the insolvency and turnaround space”.

Founded in 2015, WRP Legal & Advisory is an Adelaide-based specialised corporate and commercial law firm employing over 50 staff.

Whitebark Energy director steps down

Whitebark Energy Limited has announced the resignation of non-executive director Matthew White, who was appointed to the role in March 2021.

Whitebark said White has over thirty years of experience as an accountant, business and taxation advisor, fourteen as a registered mortgage broker and six as a financial planner.

White is also the founder and sole director of Adelaide-based chartered financial services firm Business Initiative Pty Ltd.

“The Board thanks Matthew for his significant contribution over the past two and a half years during which time the Company has relisted on the ASX, significantly reduced operating and overhead costs and pivoted its strategy focus towards renewable energy,” said Whitebark non-executive chairman Mark Lindh.

Gym firm’s new manager

Global fitness franchise F45 Training Group has appointed Adrian Furminger as General Manager for the Asia-Pacific region.

Furminger has 12 years of experience in the health and fitness industry and was chief operating officer of Snap Fitness Asia Pacific from October 2015 to August 2024.

Before this, he was central sales manager and club (Brisbane) and club manager (Toowong).

F45 Training Group said Furminger’s “ability to drive growth and innovation, coupled with his knack for identifying key strategies for franchise sales and member acquisition, positions him well to expand F45 Training Group’s member and franchisee base in the APAC market”.

Founded in Sydney in 2012, F45 Training Group has 2000 studios in 66 countries, including 13 locations in South Australia.
