Anne Barnett, a barrister with nearly 30 years of experience across defence and prosecution, will take over from Simon Stretton who resigned in May.

Barnett is due to begin at the District Court on September 9, having most recently worked as a barrister at Jeffcott Chambers.

She has also previously worked as a Crown Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Melbourne and in the Northern Territory’s office of the DPP.

Attorney-General Kyam Maher said Barnett had “vast working knowledge across criminal law, coronial matters, defamation and family law”.

“I’m sure this wealth of experience will serve Ms Barnett well in her time on the bench, and I look forward to her contribution to the District Court,” Maher said.
