The beloved local chocolatier will be able to double its production from 1000 tonnes to 2000 tonnes once the $130 million Salisbury South development is complete.

And in even sweeter news, more than 150 new jobs will be created at the chocolate factory, expected to be operational in the second half of 2025.

Haigh’s today released the designs for the project which is the “single largest infrastructure investment in the history of the South Australian family-owned business” according to the company.

“This project represents a significant milestone for Haigh’s, as it will see our current chocolate production capacity double, allowing us to meet increased demand and interstate growth opportunities, including entering new markets,” Haigh’s Chocolates chief executive Alister Haigh said.

The site was announced last year and will encompass 9000sqm of production facilities and 6000sqm of warehousing.

“Not only will this project directly create new jobs and opportunities at this site, it will facilitate employment growth across our retail business Australia-wide, creating up to 250 new jobs in the medium and long term,” Haigh’s Chocolates chief operating officer Peter Millard said.

Of the total $130 million investment, $36 million will be spent on European-made equipment including specialised panning, enrobing and moulding lines as well as kitchen and packing equipment chosen to complement the brand’s artisan capabilities.

Haigh’s has appointed CIP Constructions to oversee the development of the site and will engage more than 200 people to support the construction of the BELL Architects-designed building.

Works on the Salisbury South site will start before the end of the year.

“Today commemorates the start of construction on what will surely become one of Adelaide’s premium industrial facilities,” CIP Constructions CEO Mark Hendry said.

“Early works set to get underway include bulk earthworks and inground services before standing steel in early 2024.”
