InDaily’s annual ranking of the state’s top 100 companies by market capitalisation and revenue covers the 2019/20 financial year and includes more volatility than usual, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The list, compiled for InDaily by Adelaide financial services firm Taylor Collison, is the state’s most definitive guide to our top companies (scroll to the bottom of the page for eligibility criteria).
The countdown begins today, with the companies ranked 100 to 81, and will continue all week – with the top 20 and full list revealed on Friday.
Taylor Collison director Scott Dolling said the first 20 companies revealed today included a couple of stand-out performers.
He highlighted 90th-ranked Escient – a South Australian employee-owned business and digital consulting firm which won the employer of choice award in the Australian Business Awards in 2020.
With many businesses forced to accelerate working from home arrangements this year, the company – a start-up only three years ago – has seen a strong increase in demand.
“Escient’s revenue increased by 35 per cent in 2020, showing continued strong growth,” Dolling said.
“Escient was founded by a trio of ex-SMS Management and Technology employees in 2017 and has had double-digit growth each year.”
Dolling also highlighted confectionery company Robern Menz, which enters the list this year at 91.
“The management of Robern Menz has demonstrated they are imaginative, have high business acumen and prepared to grow via acquisition and organically,” he said.
“Notable examples include buying the manufacturing rights for Violet Crumble and Polly Waffle brands, and collaborating with a boutique brewery for its FruChocs brand.”
