100 Bloody Acres

Aug 01, 2013

The Morgan brothers, try-hard Reg (played by Adelaide-born Damon Herriman) and die-hard Lindsay (Angus Sampson), have stumbled onto the perfect recipe for their organic blood and bone business: road kill.

Reg, the dimmer of the two bright sparks, drives the delivery truck, dropping off fertiliser and picking up raw ingredients as and where he finds them.

As the brothers struggle to meet a large order, he comes across three hitchhikers on their way to a music festival and accidentally-on-purpose kidnaps them – after all, everything’s dead after it’s gone through Lindsay’s crusher, and PH is everything in the fertiliser game.

Events, however, do not turn out as the brothers expect as the feisty trio of seductress Sophie, acid-head James and edgy Wes slowly but surely turn the tables on their mucky abductors with grizzly consequences.

Filmed entirely in South Australia, 100 Bloody Acres is Wolf Creek (John Jarratt guests as a backwards country cop just to emphasise the point) on LSD. Supremely laconic, iconic and Australian to the (blood) and bone, directors Colin and Cameron Cairnes have raked up a sure-fire cult classic.

If Rebecca Gibney-fixated Reg and his incestuous brother Lindsay can’t make you laugh out loud, then by Christ their innocent little radio jingle will –  the Morgan brothers are about to plough themselves and their one hundred bloody acres into Australian horror comedy lore, and justifiably so.
