From vintage clothes to vintage bands, books and comedy, there’s plenty of reasons to venture out this weekend.

The Vitals Book, Zine and Crafty Affair

Bookworms rejoice! Theatre company  Vitalstatistix is holding its annual fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday at Waterside (11 Nile Street, Port Adelaide), with a mountain of second-hand books for sale, plus stalls selling crafts, vintage clothes, handmade jewellery and quilts. There will even be an in-house hairdresser, plus mulled wine to ward off the winter chill.

You Am I

To celebrate 20 years of “kicking out their collective jams”, multi-ARIA-winning Aussie band You Am I have reissued their first three albums and are touring the country with a series of album-themed concerts. The Hi Fi Daily Double tour lands at the Thebarton Theatre on Friday night, and last InDaily looked, there were still tickets available.  Also at the Thebby this weekend is Pink Floyd Experience with a show marking the 40th anniversary of the iconic The Dark Side of the Moon album.

Adelaide Comedy

Comedian Greg Fleet is in town this week to help Adelaide Comedy celebrate its 13th birthday and launch a new series of shows dedicated to tickling your funny bone. The main birthday party is on Saturday night at the Rhino Room, but there are also shows on Friday (same venue) and Sunday (Arkaba Hotel) featuring Fleet and a line-up of Adelaide comedians.

The Baker Suite

Adelaide pop-folk band The Baker Suite –  John Baker on guitar, Gayle Buckby on accordion and John Aue on double bass – are performing at Guthries (Prospect) on Saturday to celebrate the release of new single “The Evidence of Love” from their forthcoming album. They’ll be joined by guests Very Jane, who promise a mix of acoustic roots, alt-country and contemporary bluegrass original music.

Bastille Day

All things French will be to the fore at the SA Maritime Museum on Sunday with Bastille Day celebrations that kick off with a croissant and champagne breakfast, then continue with French music, kids’ activities and other events. Visitors will also be encouraged to explore the maritime links between Australia and France through the exhibition First Voyages, exploring the Southern Coast.

The Comedy of Errors

“Quadruple conundrums abound in this physical and slapstick fun night out in the big bad city,” InDaily’s reviewer wrote of this comedic co-production by the State Theatre Company of South Australia and Bell Shakespeare. This weekend is your last chance to see the show at the Dunstan Playhouse before it heads off on a six-month national tour.

Big Bad Wolf

Also on stage for just a couple more outings is Windmill Theatre’s likeable, misunderstood Wolfy – a far cry from the original frightening fairytale character. There are daytime performances today and tomorrow at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre. Read InDaily’s review here.

Mental as Anything

Too Many Times? Says who? After three decades together, The Mentals are still making music and touring with their self-described “highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop”. They’re performing a number of dinner-and-show gigs this weekend in Adelaide, at Norwood’s Café Palazzo (Friday), the Bridgeway Hotel (Saturday) and Woodcroft Hotel (Sunday) – and, yes, you’re guaranteed to hear the old faves.
