SANFL club directors will tonight vote on the possible merger between the two clubs, to prevent the Magpies from folding at the end of this year, but the decision is likely to be referred to the independent South Australia Football Commission. Former Port Adelaide Magpies general manager Ian McKenzie was involved in Port’s first push to join the AFL in 1990 and said the merger was an ideal solution. “The only reason the club ever was spilt was because the SANFL wanted it that way. Now it’s come back to haunt them,” Mr McKenzie said. “In the end if they vote against the merger they will lose the 3-4000 people that come out to support them every Saturday.” - MELISSA MACK Michael Jackson’s former doctor Conrad Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of the pop star.
